Marjorie A. Schumacher

Marjorie Ann Schumacher, 91, of De Pere, beloved wife of the late Dr. John "Hans" Schumacher, entered Eternal Rest on Saturday, October 27, 2018 surrounded by her loving family.

Marjorie was born on November 30, 1926 in Wisconsin Rapids, WI, daughter of the late Gilbert and Evelyn (Hamm) Sandman. In her younger years she was a Life Guard at Lake Wazeecha in Wisconsin Rapids and Chula Vista Resort in the Wisconsin Dells. She attended Stout Institute and the University of Minnesota where she studied Architecture and was one of the school's first female students. When World War II ended however, the University released Marjorie and the only other female student in order to make room for male students returning from the war. Marjorie relocated to Green Bay and became a Librarian for Kellogg Public Library. She later obtained a degree in Library Science from the University of Minnesota.

Marjorie married John Schumacher on December 26, 1953 at Ss. Peter and Paul Church in Wisconsin Rapids. They spent over 54 years of marriage until he preceded her in death on January 21, 2008. Marjorie was totally devoted to her family and raising their seven children. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing, knitting, cooking and was an avid reader and gardener. Marjorie loved to entertain and throw elaborate dinner parties. Marjorie, as a devout Catholic who's faith was very important to her, was a long time member of St. Francis Xavier Church in De Pere.

It is also well known among family that, in her later years (after Dad had passed on), Marjorie very much looked forward to a martini whenever a family member would visit. This was usually handled by her youngest son, John Jr. who has been a rock for us in her care over the past several years after moving back to DePere from Wausau.

She will be sadly missed by her 7 children: Michael Schumacher, Eric (Ruth) Schumacher, Joey Nilan, Hansine (Bill) Sweeney, Stephen (Lori) Schumacher, Matthew (Sally) Schumacher, and John (Robyn) Schumacher Jr. She is also survived by her sister, Elaine (John) Farrell along with 13 grandchildren: Meghan and Sean Nilan, John (Jessica), Tim, David, Shelagh, Eric, Tara, William Sweeney, twin sisters, Samantha and Jessica, Abigail Schumacher and Georgia Schumacher and one great grandchild on the way. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Marjorie is preceded in death by her brother, Darrell (Alice) Sandman.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 4th from 3 PM - 6 PM at Newcomer - Green Bay Chapel, 340 S. Monroe Avenue. Visitation will continue on Monday, November 5th from 10 AM - 11 AM at St. Francis Xavier Church in De Pere with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11AM. Entombment will be in Allouez Catholic Cemetery and Chapel Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to Sisters of St. Francis of the Holy Cross in Bay Settlement, Relevant Radio or Wisconsin Right to Life.
