Marie Caroline (Thiel) Halverson, 100, Green Bay, passed away suddenly and peacefully, surrounded by her family on Monday, July 21, 2014, at Century Ridge.
Marie is affectionately known by family and friends as Snookie. Marie was preceded in death by husband, Harley Lars Halverson who passed away in 1988; sister, Henrietta (Thiel) Schuler, brother-in-law, Clinton Schuler; daughter, Gail (Halverson) Stark and son-in-law, Will Stark. Marie is survived by her granddaughters, Linda Stark and Lisa Stark-Jones; grandson-in-law, Dan Jones; four great-grandchildren: Jamie Stark, Abigail Stark, Sam Jones and Liam Jones, all of Green Bay; and niece Kay (Schuler) Jensen of Germantown.
Marie was born on May 5, 1914, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. She married Harley Halverson of Sheboygan on October 28, 1933. The pair had one daughter and together lived in Sheboygan, Milwaukee, Duluth and Green Bay. They traveled extensively with siblings and friends, as far as Russia, China, Hawaii and Spain.
Marie's favorite pastimes grew from her Wisconsin upbringing and German heritage – cards and bridge with friends, German cooking, bird watching, spending time on the golf course and at Crystal Lake near Elkhart Lake. She preferred to watch Packer games alone so as not to be distracted.
Marie will be sorely missed for her sharp commentary and humor, present throughout her 100 loving years.
Friends and family are asked to gather and celebrate her life on Thursday, July 24 at Atonement Lutheran Church, 2132 Deckner Ave. Visitation from 9 – 10:45 followed by funeral services at 11:00 officiated by Pastor Stan Lillich . Interment will be at Wildwood Cemetery in Sheboygan, where Marie will be laid to rest near her husband, mother, sister and brother-in-law.
In lieu of flowers, her family requests gifts be made to the Marie Halverson Memorial Fund to be contributed to Exceptional Equestrians of De Pere and Atonement Lutheran Church of Green Bay.
