I was born on December 27, 1938 to the late Leonard and Genevieve Hearden. I attended St. Patrick's grade school and graduated from West High School, class of 1957. I married the late George Hoeffel in 1959. We divorced in 1988. We raised five children.
While in my forties, I enrolled in the Nursing Program at NWTC. I graduated in 1984 with an Associate's Degree in Nursing. I started my nursing (RN) career at St. Vincent Hospital, and remained there until my retirement in 2003.
I enjoyed golf, Bridge, crossword puzzles, knitting, and the time I spent with my children and grandchildren.
I am survived by my children: Paul, Patty and Susan (Tony) Greene; grandsons: Jack and Oliver; sister, Alice Conlin; brother, Pat Hearden; and sister-in-law, Pat Hearden. I was preceded in death by my daughter, Katie; my son, Peter; my sister, Gen Linsdau; my brother, Bill Hearden; and brothers-in-law: Jim Conlin and Tom Linsdau.
The above was found among Mom's "important papers" on the day of her passing. While she nailed down the basics, she forgot to mention so many things:
She held many happy memories from her childhood. She was the "go to" mom in our neighborhood. She could skate a beautiful figure eight. She liked down hill skiing, but hated chair lifts. When she joined the YMCA later in life, she made some wonderful friends. She watched many a movie and enjoyed many a dinner with some of those Y friends. For many years, mom enjoyed her Sunday dinner and playing Rummy with her son, Paul.
Mom was an excellent Nurse, a treasured friend, a sweet neighbor, and a wonderful mother, nana, and grandma.
Mom really got into watching Packer Games, Brewer Games and college basketball. She had a wonderful sense of humor, tolerating the merciless teasing by her children. She had the "mom dance" down as though she created it. She was a brave singer, she was creative with pronunciations ie: Salon Dalon.
Mom showed heroic strength during her lifetime, including when she lost her daughter, Katie, to cancer 30 years ago. Again ten years ago when her heart surgery went awry and she was hospitalized for over two months. Then, she face the death of a second child, Peter, just eight months ago. This woman was a she-warrior.
Mom loved Kohls' dollars, scratchies, a good head scratch, a long foot rub, and she never met an old fashioned that she didn't like.
As she neared the end of her life, her daughters, Patty and Susan, had the privilege of being her caregivers along with the support of the outstanding Unity Hospice team. Mom passed away peacefully, August 24, 2024, in her own home as was her wish.
