Lucia Ann Geniesse, age 91, of Green Bay, was born to eternal life on Saturday, September 7, 2024. Born on February 12, 1933 in Green Bay, she was the daughter of the late Levi and Chloe (Wells) Geniesse.
Lucia was a distinguished graduate of St. Joseph Academy and Rosary College. A devoted member of the Sinsinawa Dominican Order, she dedicated her life to her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Along with her ministries, she taught high school English in Chicago, Wausau, Milwaukee and Minnesota. She later taught English as a second language in Chicago. Lucia also served as a librarian at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay and St. Norbert College for several years, fostering a love of learning in her students and community.
She is survived by her sister, Sister Virginia Geniesse, O.P., Hazel Green, WI; and brother, Peter (Jill) Geniesse of Neenah. Additionally, she leaves behind her nieces, Susanne (Frank) Engels and Barbara Alger; nephews: Michael (Carol), David, Mark (Linda), Paul (Kristen) Alger and Peter Lee (Leticia) Geniesse; along with her great-nieces and great-nephews: Matthieu, Chloe (Gus, children Rose and Ella), Camille Marienbach; Patrick (Rachel, children Remy and Rhys), Melissa Alger; Madeline, Martine and Sydney Alger; Antonio, Santiago and Máximo Geniesse.
Lucia was preceded in death by a sister, Marie Geniesse Alger, her brother, Rev. Joseph Geniesse, CSC, and her brother-in-law, Donald Alger.
Visitation will be held at St. Mary of the Angels Parish, located at 650 S. Irwin St., Green Bay, WI, Tuesday, September 17, 2024 from 10 to 11AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM. Burial will be in Allouez Catholic Cemetery.
Lucia wanted to express her heartfelt gratitude to her close friends Sue Leffel, Cynthia Boudwin and Cheryl LeMere at Edward Jones for their exceptional care and compassion. A special thank you, as well to the entire staff and community at McCormick Assisted Living and ThedaCare Hospice.
