Lillian C. "Lil" (Zehren) Allen, age 104, a long-time Green Bay resident, passed away Saturday, February 18, 2017. She was born July 7, 1912 in Algoma, WI, daughter of the late Charles and Louise (Sibilsky) Zehren.
The Zehren family moved to Green Bay in 1918, where Lil attended Whitney and St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Grade Schools and graduated from Green Bay East High School, June 11, 1930. Lillian married Leslie B. Allen, June 20, 1934 and they moved into a new home he built on Chicago Street and were blessed with 2 daughters. Lillian and Les celebrated their 61st wedding Anniversary in 1994 and Leslie passed away July 17, 1995.
At age 16 Lillian began working at the F.W. Woolworth Store and later managed the soda fountain counter. Dad always said he met his "Million Dollar Baby" at the Five and Dime Store. She also worked for H.C. Prange for 13 years in the bridal and hat departments.
Lillian was proud to be the oldest living member of the St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church (for 98 years!) and is an honorary member of the Ladies Aid where she held different church offices, helped with funeral meals and was a past president of the Little Switzerland Garden Club.
Lil and Les spent 15 wonderful winters in Gulfport, Florida, where they met many life-long friends and spent their time every weekend dancing-something they loved to do. Lil's past-times included a good game of cards, whether with family or friends belonging to many card clubs, going out for breakfast, lunch or dinner (sometimes both in one day!) Mom cooked for her family for every holiday, including Christmas Day (which was Dad's birthday) until she was 83 years old.
Lil was a talented craftswoman and made beautiful things for her family and friends, including her cherished crystal Christmas ornaments. Some of Lillian's most memorable times were weekends at Berry Lake and the yearly costume parties with the cousins from Algoma. She never missed a Packer game or the opportunity to cheer loudly for her team! First and foremost, Lillian was a loving wife and mother and a proud Gramma, Great-Gramma and Great-Great-Gramma. Her greatest joy was spending holidays, birthday and special occasions with her family.
Lillian's survivors will greatly miss her love and concern for all of them, including: 2 daughters, Karen Magaurn and Diane (Richard) Dombeck, both of Green Bay; 5 grandchildren: Todd (Lisa Majestic) Magaurn, Green Bay, Kelly (Brian) Farrell, Phoenix, AZ, Tim Magaurn, Oregon, WI, Cindy Rasmussen, Sarasota, FL and Kara (Paul) Sefcik, of Green Bay; 9 great-grandchildren: Alexandrea Pettey, Talya (Evan) Eafroy, Brandon Magaurn, Charnette Leikness, Connor and Cole Farrell, Jasper Iwen, Avery and Peyton Sefcik; a great-great-granddaughter, KarLynn Eafroy; 2 step-grandchildren, Melissa Hackelberg and Dan Dombeck; 2 step-great-grandchildren, Morgan and Brooke Hackelberg; a brother, Ralph Zehren and 2 sisters, Ethel Ellingson and Marlene Nerat. Aunt Lil is further survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leslie; sister, Viola Staehly; brother, John Zehren; son-in-law, Bill Magaurn; brothers-in-law: Herbert Staehly, Robert Ellingson and Ed Nerat; sisters-in-law, Marianne and Gertrude Zehren and many sisters and brothers-in-law of the Allen family.
Visitation will be held at ST. PAUL EV. LUTHERAN CHURCH (514 S. Clay St., Green Bay), Wednesday, February 22, 2016 from 9 to 10:45 AM . A funeral service will follow at 11 AM with Pastor Jon Zabell officiating. Entombment will be in Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum.
