Leo N. Crowley

July 21, 1929 — August 19, 2014

Leo Crowley passed away on August 19, 2014, at St. Vincent Hospital in Green Bay surrounded by family. Leo was born on July 21, 1929, in Beloit, WI. He was the fifth of eight children born to Harry and Francis and was the last of the Crowley clan to go to be with the Lord.

After graduating from Loras College, Leo courted and married Barbara Barnard from Green Bay. Shortly after being commissioned to the US Army, Leo and Barbara were sent to France to start their married lives together; Barbara as a devoted wife and Leo as a supply chain officer.

After serving his country, Leo moved his wife and newborn daughter to Green Bay to launch what would be a very successful career with Green Bay Packaging. Although Leo would have been successful anywhere, he could not have been happier building his life in Green Bay and his career at "Packaging", as he used to say. Forty years later, he retired from the company as Executive Vice President.

Wanting to use his talents to make a difference beyond the business world, Leo dedicated enormous amounts of his time and energy to a number of important organizations in the community. He served on the St. Vincent Hospital board and Advisory Committee for more than twenty years, was a founding member of St. Norbert College President's Task Force, and served many years on the board of the Green Bay YMCA. He generously gave of his time, energy and resources and was blessed to be able to establish the Leo and Barbara Crowley Scholarship fund at St. Norbert College.

Although perhaps unsure at first, retirement ultimately came easily to Leo. Barbara and he moved to Quail Ridge in Boynton Beach, FL and for the last twenty years have spent eight months each year in Florida. Still vigorous and engaged even in retirement, Leo became President of Quail Ridge and served on the board of Bethesda Hospital. He played lots of tennis and golf and consistently shot his age or better! He enjoyed his friends and activities, but his greatest joy was simply being with his wife and family.

He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Barbara, four children; Colleen Doro, Jane Whaling (Marsh), Tom (Adrienne) and Jim (Jane), eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Leo was directing traffic and making us laugh right up until the end. We will miss him greatly.

A memorial mass will be held at 10:30am on Friday, August 29, 2014, at St. Norbert College Parish at Old St. Joe's Church, De Pere, with Rev. Jay Fostner, O.Praem., officiating. A reception will follow at the F. K. Bemis Center on St. Norbert Campus.

In lieu of flowers, the family would ask you to consider donating to the Leo and Barbara Crowley Scholarship Fund at St. Norbert College, 100 Grant Street, De Pere, WI 54115.
