Lawrence Douglas Burt

December 21, 1950 — November 16, 2023

Lawrence Douglas Burt (Larry/L.D.) died unexpectedly at his home on November 16, 2023. He will be deeply missed by his beloved family and friends as they grieve his sudden death.

Larry was born in DuBois, Pennsylvania, the youngest of the Burt's three children. He grew up healthy and strong in a loving and happy family. When Larry was twelve, the Burts moved to the Midwest for better employment opportunities. It was a very good move for the family and all thrived in their new location. Larry graduated from UW Oshkosh with a degree in business. He followed his Dad's footsteps and chose a career in sales. Larry worked at Packer City International for many years and eventually became a part owner of the company. He enjoyed his work and considered his customers as friends. He worked hard and was successful because he was forthright, honest and enjoyed working with people. They knew he was a man of integrity.

When he decided to buy a home, he found one with a big lawn, a barn, a few cats and a beautiful palomino horse named Pete. He spent many hours of his free time meticulously caring for all of them. Anyone driving near his home in the summer would be familiar with seeing him on his John Deere cutting the grass perfectly every time.

Larry was an entertaining fellow. He loved being with friends and family and always had stories to tell. "Uncle Gug" especially loved being with nieces and nephews who brought out the kid in him and created many happy, fun-filled memories for them. He was their favorite babysitter, often cloning the antics of "Uncle Buck" and doing funny, crazy things to make them laugh while Mom and Dad were away.

He was curious about many things. He was an avid reader. He was interested in local politics. He loved going to family reunions and so enjoyed talking to older relatives and hearing their stories. He noticed people. He loved shooting trap and sporting clays with his friends. He had a life-long love of playing golf and enjoyed many hours golfing with guys he met at Crystal Springs Golf course. They all were like another family for him.

He was preceded in death by his Mom and Dad and his brother, Paul.

He is survived by his sister Susan (Austin) McGuan; his nieces and nephews Ryan (Lindsay) McGuan, Bridget (Paolo) Pieri, all of Green Bay, Jennifer (Greg) Sova, Caledonia, MI, Katie Burt, Chicago, IL, Jon (Erin) Burt, Atlanta, Georgia; cousins Rita Kay (Jim) Kline, Spring Green, WI, Ruth Ann (Bob) Berry, Plain, WI, and Jim Lewis; 8 grand nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank all those first responders who aided the family on the day we needed their kind, calm, knowledgeable presence. The family is very grateful for their help. We also would like to say thank you to Larry's long-time neighbors and friends, Dave and Carol Hall. They brought much joy to his life and his family is very grateful for their love and support in this difficult time.
