LaVerne VanderHeyden, age 94, of Suamico, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at Bay Harbor Assisted Living. She was born January 29, 1924 in Green Bay, daughter of the late William and Elvira (Gerondale) Evrard.
LaVerne attended Ss. Peter and Paul Grade School and graduated from Green Bay East High School. LaVerne married Herman VanderHeyden, February 19, 1944 in Green Bay and they shared 53 loving years of marriage before Herman passed away in 1997. The family relocated to Rhinelander in the early 1950's where LaVerne was very active as a young mother and volunteer within the community. She was involved in Brownies, Girls Scouts, Cub Scouts and other youth activities with her 3 children. LaVerne and Herman returned to Green Bay in 1967 and LaVerne worked at Prange's in the Crystal Room, eventually becoming the manager.
LaVerne loved to golf and was a member of the Ladies and Couples Golf Leagues at The Woods. She enjoyed wood-working crafts with her daughter, Glenda, as well as playing cards, gambling and wintering in Arizona with Herman. LaVerne was a proud member of St. Bernard Catholic Church and the Ladies Altar Society. LaVerne was a true Packer fan and was in attendance at the Ice Bowl. She had a great sense of humor that continues to this day.
LaVerne is survived by her 3 children: Glenda (Donald) Pelisek, William (special friend, Kathy) VanderHeyden and Richard (Jane) VanderHeyden; 6 grandchildren: Matthew VanderHeyden and Rachel Healy, Shawn, Bryan, Scott and Tracy VanderHeyden; 8 great-grandchildren and sisters-in-law, Betty VanderHeyden and Stella Bouche.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman; 2 brothers, Norman and Melvin (Helen) and a sister, Mildred (Dick) De Greef.
Visitation will be held at St. Bernard Catholic Church (2040 Hillside Ln., Green Bay), Monday, April 16, 2018 from 9 to 11 AM. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 AM.
