Kenneth Sterckx

December 31, 1929 — September 11, 2016

Kenneth Sterckx, 86, of Green Bay, passed away, Sunday September 11th, 2016, peacefully at home with his family by his side. He was born on December 31, 1929, in Green Bay to the late Arthur and Beatrice (Ruelle) Sterckx.

After graduating from Green Bay West High School in 1949 Ken went to work with his dad plastering homes in Green Bay. He was drafted into the Army during the Korean War in March 1951 and honorably discharged 2 years later. During his time in the service Ken served in the 443d Ord Ammo Co stationed in Muenster, Germany.

Ken returned home and began working at Midwest Cold Storage. While out with the guys one night, he saw a picture of a young lady behind the bar. He told the bar owner that he was going to marry that girl. That girl was the bar owners daughter, Harriett Mills whom lived in Chicago at the time. Ken met Harriett when she came to visit her parents in September of 1953. They were married three months later on December 5th, 1953. This 62 year union brought 6 children into their lives.

In 1961 Ken began working for the Hurlbut Company as a material man. He retired in 1986 due to health issues.

Ken enjoyed motorcycles in his younger years. His first bike was a 1953 Harley Davidson that he purchased in pieces. With the help of his buddy Dick they put it together piece by piece. He then traded it in for his 1967 Harley Davidson Electra Glide, which is still in the family. He also was a co-founder of the Sports and Competition Motor Cycle Club.
Another enjoyment was traveling throughout the US with his family. He was fortunate to have made it to every state in the Union except Alaska. In 2006 he was able to travel back to Germany with his wife and daughter/son-in-law. While there, Ken visited the Army Base he served at, which was the highlight of the trip.

His greatest pleasure in life was spending time with his family.
