Kathleen A. Biersteker

November 2, 1938 — April 21, 2014

Kathleen Ann (Wilcox) Biersteker, 75, passed away on Monday morning, April 21, 2014, after a battle with lung cancer.

Kathy was born Nov. 2, 1938, in Chippewa Falls, WI, to William G. and Gloria E. (Nyhagen) Wilcox. The church bells rang all over Chippewa when Kathy was born (it was 6 AM). She grew up in Chippewa Falls, Eau Claire, Green Bay and Marshfield, WI.

She graduated from Marshfield High School in 1956, where she was captain of the cheerleading squad and prom queen. After high school, her family returned to Green Bay, where she met the love of her life, Bruce Biersteker. They were married on July 18, 1959. Last year, they celebrated their 54th anniversary.

Together, they raised five children, Timothy Biersteker (wife Sheryl, her "fifth daughter"), Kelly Fleming (husband Patrick), Karon Douglas, Kirstin Biersteker and Kerry (special friend Matthew Kramer) Biersteker. She is further survived by seven grandchildren, Dena (Gustavo) Rodriguez, Ashley Biersteker, Erica Douglas, Courtney Biersteker, Christopher Biersteker, Christian Biersteker, and Nonah Gerdig; and five great grandchildren, Antonio and Diego Rodriguez, Chilese & Dollion Dixon and Alijah Vaughn.

She was preceded in death by her parents; ister, Patricia K. Schadrie; father and mother-in-law, Joseph and Esther Biersteker; a number of brothers and sisters-in-law; nephew, Matthew Schadrie; niece, Diane Kniess; and grandnephew, Robert Schadrie.

Kathy was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous and attended meetings at the 218 Club. She celebrated 35 years of sobriety on August 26, 2013.

Visitation will be held from 3:00pm until 7:00pm on Friday, April 25, 2014, at Newcomer Funeral Home, 340 S. Monroe Ave., Green Bay. A funeral service will be held at 7:00pm on Friday at the funeral home.

She had a positive spirit and a great sense of humor. She positively impacted many people's lives. She was viewed by many as a surrogate mom and grandma. She opened her home to all. She listened without judging, loved unconditionally, and offered sage advice. She was loved by many and will be missed by all whose lives she touched.

Kathy's family would like to thank the associates at Unity Hospice for their care during her illness. We especially want to thank our sister Kelly and brother in law Pat for bringing mama to their home and caring for her there, and our sister Karon for her help in mama's last days.
