GREEN BAY – Karen J. Hougard, age 76, died October 22, 2015, at home in Green Bay, WI. She was born August 23, 1939 in Wall Lake, IA, the youngest child of the late William and Alma (Staab) Gosch.
She graduated from Stephens College for Women and Iowa State University with a Degree in Home Economics. On March 4, 1961, she married Robert C. Hougard at Grace Lutheran Church. Karen and Robert started their family in Green Bay. In the mid 60's, Karen taught preschool at Mayflower Nursery School; in the early 70's, Karen started her career in accounting; became treasurer of George M. Hougard & Sons Inc. and Hougard Investments until she retired in 2000. She served as a Board Member for the St. Mary's Hospital – A Woman's Place for a number of years, as well as volunteering and supporting many community organizations. She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, traveling and was an avid Green Bay Packers Fan. She attended most all home games, the Ice Bowl, many playoff games and some Super Bowls.
Karen is survived by her husband, Robert C. Hougard, her three children, Robert Jr. (Susan) Hougard of Delafield, WI, Heather Hougard, Julie (Shawn Krueger) of Green Bay, WI; and her seven grandchildren; her two sisters Mary Lou Koenck of Wall Lake, IA; Susan (Walter Krapff) of Rochester Hills, MI; her brother-in-law Roger Rathburn of Niwot, CO; and her sister's-in-laws, Grace Gosch, TN & Beverly (Hougard) Borden, FL; many nieces and nephews. She loved her family dearly and will be greatly missed by all, including her faithful pets.
Karen was preceded in death by her two sisters Jeanne (Jim Lyng) and Mavis Gosch, and her brother William Gosch; sister-in-law, Kathryn (Hougard) Rathburn, brother/sister-in-law, Howard (Carol) Hougard, and brother-in-law, Allen Borden.
On Saturday November 28th a Private Family and Friends Memorial Gathering will be held in her memory.
Karen's family wants to express their sincere gratitude to everyone for their prayers, kindness & compassion to our family during mom's journey through her treatments and hospice care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Pilgrim Congregational Church-Green Bay; Green Bay Botanical Garden; Autism Society of Wisconsin or to the charity of one's choice.
