Karen J. Hastreiter

June 15, 1960 — May 21, 2018

Karen Barta Hastreiter, 57, unexpectedly passed away on Monday, May 21, 2018 at Aurora Bay Care. Karen was born on June 15, 1960 in Green Bay, Wisconsin to Jean and Dale Barta.

She was born and raised in Green Bay, Wisconsin and graduated from East High School in 1978. Karen went on to become a jack-of-all-trades and brought a sense of expertise and fun to everything she did. She started training as a plumber and then moved on to Festival Foods where she found her home.

On November 9, 1985, Karen married the love of her life Joseph (Pud) Hastreiter and the two went through a tunnel of plungers then on to create an amazing life for their amazing children. They built their home and filled it with love on Chicago St. on the East Side.

Karen was full of life, love, and laughter and found many ways to share what she had with family, friends, and strangers. Her laugh could be heard while she volunteered at local school events, Room at the Inn and at Packers' games. Karen was known to "boomerang" customers for Festival Foods, a tradition she passed on to her children and nieces and nephews.

Anytime, you could find Karen sharing stories, playing games, and joking with family and friends. Always with Karen's guidance, everything was filled with good food, laughter, and an amazing sense of family.

An avid dart thrower, Karen could hit the bullseye of anyone's heart and was the center of any party or gathering. Through humor and a caring spirit, Karen truly cared about everyone she knew. Many have stories of Karen standing up for what is right, while having a sense of compassion for all those involved.

Karen is survived by her husband Joseph Hastreiter, daughter Jessica (Steve) Jagusch, daughter Kayla Hastreiter, daughter Maggie Hastreiter (Josh Benti), and son Mike (Kayla) Hastreiter, Grandchildren Destiny, Liam and Elise. Karen is further survived by her siblings Peggy (late Craig) Jones, Rusty (Kate) Barta, Jane (late Rich) Ives and David (Penny) Barta . Karen was further survived by the all of the extended Barta and Hastreiter families. Karen is preceded in death by her parents Dale and Jean Barta.
