Junior "Jay" Schneiter, age 79, of Oconto Falls, passed away Thursday, July 18, 2019, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born October 7, 1939 in Knowles, WI, son of the late Ernt and Hilda (Schwartz) Schneiter.
Jay proudly served his country in the US Navy from 1954-1959, serving during the Korean War. He married Peg Melotte and the couple was blessed with a daughter, Amy. Jay worked as a Millwright at O & E, Green Bay, retiring in 2000. He loved to cook and shared his talents at numerous area restaurants, including The Union Hotel, De Pere. Jay met Sheila Konkel in 1993 and they have been companions for 26 years.
Jay and Sheila enjoyed playing cards with their friends and Jay was an especially avid Cribbage player. Jay loved spending as much time as he could in the outdoors. He could often be found at his grandkids' activities and sporting events. Jay had a unique sense of humor. He was a proud father and grandfather. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.
Jay is survived by his daughter, Amy Schneiter and her children, Austin Fitzgerald and Abby Schneiter; his companion, Sheila Konkel and her children: Rob (Juana) Konkel, Mark Konkel, Steve (Emily) Konkel and Deanna (Scott) Vanden Langenberg; 2 brothers, Jim and Kenny Schneiter; 3 sisters: Lily Wondra, Geraldine (Willy) Zirbel and Georgia Schneiter. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by 4 brothers: Gerald, Milfred, Orville and Norman and a sister, Donna Mae.
Visitation will be held at Newcomer-Green Bay Chapel (340 S. Monroe Ave., Green Bay), Friday, July 26, 2019 from 4 to 6 PM. A funeral service will follow at 6 PM with full military honors. Burial will be in Brookside Cemetery, Abrams, WI.
