Joyce E. Berndt, age 80, of Green Bay, passed away Monday, February 12, 2018 at Bornemann Nursing Home. She was born March 5, 1937 in Kewaunee, WI, daughter of the late Ormer and Marie (Mauer) Raasch and was a graduate of Kewaunee High School.
Joyce married Lawrence LuMaye, May 5, 1956. Joyce and Lawrence were married 18 years and welcomed 3 children: Mark, Lynne and Dan before Lawrence passed away in December of 1974. Joyce later married James "Jim" Berndt, July 14, 1977 in Manitowoc, WI. They shared 38 years of marriage and were blessed with a daughter, Lisa. Jim passed away in July of 2016.
Joyce was employed as a cook at Golden Living for over 20 years. She was a gifted cook and loved to share her talents with her family and guests. No one left her house hungry. Joyce loved to sew and work on crafts with her late husband, Jim. They gave their creations as gifts or sold them at consignment shops. She also enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening. Her strong will and determination guided her through her life as well as through a courageous battle with many types of cancer. Her greatest memories were those shared with her family.
Joyce is survived by her 3 daughters: Lisa (Jerry) Johnson, Lynne (Steve) Stillings and Lorie LaPorta; 4 sons: Mark LuMaye, Dan (Cyndi) LuMaye, Mike Berndt and John (Kristi) Berndt; 15 grandchildren; her brother-in-law, Wally Bohler. She is further survived by numerous canine companions, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Mary Jane Bohler.
Visitation will be held at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (340 S. Monroe Ave., Green Bay), Sunday, February 18, 2018 from 2 to 4 PM. A memorial service will follow at 4 PM.
