Joseph C. Harkins, 70, passed away on Monday, June 20th, 2022, surrounded by his loved ones. He was preceded in death by his father John Harkins, his mother Emily Harkins, his brother James Harkins, brother-in-law James Fuller, and his brother-in-law Wes Hovde.
Joe was born in Green Bay on December 22, 1951 to Emily Anne (Dallas) and John Peter Harkins. He graduated from Green Bay West highschool in 1970. Joe married Julie Van Laanen and they raised 2 sons together. Joe was employed as a fabricator for Green Bay Structural Steel and later for the State of Wisconsin as a Correctional Officer. Joe married his second wife Lynne Boex, who shared his love of dogs, gardening and visits with friends and family.
Joe was passionate about all types of crafts, including woodworking, hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors. Joe shared his love of the outdoors with his sons and as a Scout Leader of Troop 1007. He loved to drink coffee, chat with friends and he could make anybody laugh.
Joe's many novel interests and pursuits lead him to form lasting friendships and connections in the community. Admittedly, Joe's enthusiasm sometimes exceeded his abilities, but he seldom, if ever, allowed common sense to fade his vibrant and characteristic immoderation. (Tipi for sale. New in Box. Joe loved being a grandfather. His grandbabies, as he called them, truly lit up his life. He loved his siblings, and was very proud of his nieces and nephews, sons and grandchildren.
A celebration of life is planned for Wednesday, June 29th at 5:00 PM to be held at Newcomer Funeral Home located at 340 S Monroe Ave, Green Bay, WI.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Bay Area Humane Society.
