John E. Thompson, 90, of Green Bay, passed away on May 12, 2024 at Angels Touch Assisted Living surrounded by his family.

He was born on August 19, 1933 to Eugene and Hilda (Foss) Thompson in Hancock, Minnesota. John was the second youngest of 10 children. He and his younger brother, as they grew up developed a love for baseball. They were a powerful pair throughout high school, and their teamwork as pitcher and catcher allowed them to win many games. Following his time in the service, John went to college to earn a degree to become a high school teacher. He and his first wife settled in Minnesota. They was blessed with three daughters.

On April 3rd, 1970, he married Peggy Turriff. They lived in Wausau for many years before moving to the Green Bay area when they retired. The couple was blessed with one son, Erik. John and Peggy loved to travel, and went on many trips throughout the years. Also spent winters in Myrtle Beach golfing once they retired.

John loved golf, spending most every day of his retirement out on the greens. He prided himself on the three separate occasions he got a hole-in-one. He also loved being outdoors, going fishing, hunting, and spending time on the water.

John is survived by his loving wife, Peggy, their son; Erik (Rita) Thompson, his three daughters; Suzanne (Dennis) DiPiazza, Lisa (Jon) Quade, Jill Oelke, five grandchildren; Patricia and Adam DiPiazza, Michael Quade, Christopher and Colleen Oelke, and one great-granddaughter, Ellie Quade. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his mother- and father-in-law (Florence and Elzire), his 9 siblings, two brother-in-laws (Ted and Lowell), and first wife (Connie).

John's Family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Angel's Touch, Unity Hospice and their Marine volunteer, Mike, who visited faithfully every week for over 2 years giving John the opportunity to talk to a Marine Vet and share stories of their military experiences.
