John Robert Danz

John Robert Danz, 70, of Green Bay, passed away on Tuesday, October 02, 2012, after a very long illness.
He was born July 7, 1942, in Green Bay, the son of J. Gilbert and Eva(Babler)Danz.
John was a graduate of Green Bay East High School. After graduation John joined the U.S. Navy, serving for four years. John worked for Schreiber Foods for 37 years. Over the years, John was a leader for the Boy Scouts, involved in the Sea Scouts, and was an involved member of the Teamsters Union.
John married Margaret M. Grzeskowiak on March 1, 1969 in Pulaski, WI. John is survived by his wife of 42 years who lovingly cared for him throughout his illness.
Survivors include three children, Stacey Danz and significant other David Cichocki, Laura (Timothy) Luedeman, and Brent (Mara) Danz; two grandchildren, Audrey and Heath Danz; his mother, Eva (Babler) Danz; five sisters, Mary (Walter) Wied, Susan (Leroy) Joppa, Jane (James) LeFevre, Terese Herden and Stephanie (Glenn) Danz; and many nieces and nephews and other loved family members.
He was preceded in death by his father, J. Gilbert Danz; father-in-law, Peter Grzeskowiak; mother-in-law, Esther (Lesecki) Grzeskowiak; and brother-in-law, Michael Herden.
John enjoyed spending time with his family and always put them first. John had a great sense of humor and always had a smile on his face even during the toughest times. Some of his many loves were camping with his family, fishing, golfing, bowling, and one of his first loves, the Green Bay Packers. For many years, he was a Santa Claus and loved interacting with kids. One of John's proudest moments was rescuing a man from a fire in December of 1986.
Family and friends may call Friday, October 5, 2012 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 340 S. Monroe Ave., Green Bay, from 4:00pm until 8:00pm with a parish prayer service at 7:00pm. Visitation will continue on Saturday at St. Bernard Catholic Parish, 2040 Hillside Lane., Green Bay, from 9:00am until 9:45am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the church on Saturday at 10:00am with Rev. Mark Vander Steeg officiating. Entombment will be at Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to all of the nurses and staff at Kindred Health Care San Luis Nursing Home and Unity Hospice for all of the wonderful care and support provided to John and his family.
