John James Pavek, age 80, of Green Bay, passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2016. He was born September 1, 1935 in Waukegan, IL, son of the late Thomas and Eva (Seifert) Pavek. John graduated 8th grade from St. Anastasia Grade School, Waukegan, IL and was a graduate of St. George High School, Evanston, IL.
John married Rosalie Sorrentino, August 22, 1959 at Immaculate Conception Church, Waukegan, IL and together they shared 56 loving years of marriage and raised three children. John earned his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Marquette University in 1961 and 1965.
John spent most of his career working in the Catholic school system and in the non-for-profit world. He touched many lives and was always fighting to give a voice to those who had no voice. In Milwaukee he was assistant director of St. Charles Boys' Home. He was also superintendent of the 10 Peoria area Catholic schools. After his service there, he served in Peoria, IL as executive director of Easter Seals Rehab Center and of the St. Jude Midwest Affiliate.
The family relocated to Green Bay, WI in 1986, where John took a position as executive director of Cerebral Palsy, Inc. John was Principal of Huntington Catholic Schools in Huntington, IN after which he was director of the Oneida Head Start program until 2011, when he retired.
John loved to read, fish, hunt, sing in the choir and watch sports, especially the Packers.
John is survived by his loving wife, Rosie; his children: John James, II (Brenda), Diana (Douglas) Hutchison and Christina (Theodore) Andersen; 7 grandchildren: Abigail, Nicholas, Maxwell, MacKenzie, Matthew (Katelyn), Grant and Lydia; 2 great-grandchildren, Bennett and Patrick; sister, Delores Kemper; sister and brother–in-law, Trish and Don Menefee; many nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; friends and neighbors.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his mother and father-in-law; brothers: Norman, Arnold and William; a nephew, Jimmy and brother-in-law, Jack Kemper.
Friends and relatives may call at ST. MATTHEW PARISH, (130 St. Matthew St., Green Bay) on Friday, April 22, 2016 from 9:30 AM to 11:45 AM. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 12 NOON with Fr. Bob Kabat officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials directed to St. Matthew Parish, Green Bay, are appreciated.
