John "Jack" Verhasselt, 86, Wrightstown, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 05, 2014. He was born September 4, 1927, in Wrightstown to the late Jerome and Josephine (Bries) Verhasselt. Jack graduated from Wrightstown High School in 1945. He proudly served his country during WWII in the U.S. Navy. On November 24, 1964, Jack married the love of his life, Millie Schroeder. They celebrated 28 years together before Millie passed away on October 22, 1993.
Jack was a mason by trade. He was a member of the Wisconsin Masons Union and a Life Member of the Bricklayers & Trowel Trades Int'l. He was also a proud member of the American Legion Post 436. Jack's hobbies included many home building projects and maintenance work on his property.
Survivors include his sisters, Joan Eckert, Rita (Dan) Shebel, and Zita Wessa; sisters-in-law, Loretta and Helen Verhasselt and Mary Ann Geske; brother-in-law, Wayne Thede; special friend, Evelyn Baus; many nieces and nephews; and longtime friend, Steve Lamers.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Millie; his parents; brothers, Basil, Leo, and Orlo Verhasselt; sister, Mary Thede; sisters-in-law, Lucille Southwell and Mae Gallagher, brothers-in-law, Melvin, Carl, Richard and Lawrence Schroeder, Carl "Buck" Eckert and Alan Wessa.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Clare Parish (St. Paul's Church), 437 Main St., Wrightstown, Saturday, April 12, 2014, at 11:00am.
