John Joseph Arendt, 82, of New Franken, passed away on August 30, 2024 at Bellin Health Hospital. He was born on August 22, 1942 to Alois and Martha (Dorner) Arendt in Luxemburg. He graduated from Luxemburg High School in 1960. He then served 3 years in the US Army.
On April 24, 1965, he married his best friend and love of his life, Francine Byrle Gillis. John worked for Procter and Gamble in Green Bay for almost 33 years and retired in 1996. He spent the next two years remodeling their cottage on Lake Hilbert. During the winter, they spent 4 months in Lake Havasu City, Arizona for 25 years. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, basket making, and golfing. He was a member of American Legion Post #262 and a charter member of the Knights of Columbus.
John is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Francine, and five children: John (Lucy) Arendt, Lynn (Todd) Pyatt, Leslie (Jim) Rabideau, Steve (Lisa) Arendt, and David Arendt; 10 grandchildren: John (Dana) Arendt, Michael (Corynne) Arendt, David (special friend, Natalie) Arendt, Sean (Milena) Pyatt, Samuel (Jennifer) Pyatt, Ryan (special friend, Sydney) Pyatt, Tyler (Camilla) Rabideau, Evan Rabideau, Jacob (fiancée, Terrah) Arendt and Roman Arendt; six great-grandchildren: Raelle, Amelia, Madelyn, Ava, Jax, and Tye; his sister, Amanda Patterson, brother, Grant (Jeanne) Arendt, sisters-in-law: Georgia Arendt, Nancy Koebel, and Mary Gillis; brothers-in-law: Robert Krueger, Mark Piontek, Bill Koebel, Dan Gillis, and Dan Vandenhouten; he is further survived by nieces, nephews, and other relatives and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, parents-in-law, Walter and Eileen (Hilton) Gillis, brothers: Alois and Anthony; sisters: Cathy Nantelle, Ethel Woldt, Virginia Drenski, and Sharon LaCombe; sisters-in-law: Amy Vandenhouten and Chris Piontek; brothers-in-law: Ronald Woldt, Matt Dennisen, Neil Patterson, and Ellis LaCombe.
Visitation will be held on Monday, September 9, 2024 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 340 S. Monroe Ave from 4:00 pm until 6:30 pm with a Prayer Service at 6:30 pm and then on Tuesday, September 10, 2024 at St. Bernard Catholic Parish, 2040 Hillside Lane, from 10:00 am until the time of Mass at 11:00 am with Military Honors to follow. Private inurnment will take place at Nicolet Memorial Gardens.
In Lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established to Food for the Poor.
