John H. Hoelzle

August 7, 1922 — August 16, 2017

John H. "Jack" Hoelzle, age 95, of Allouez, passed away Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at Bornemann Nursing Home with his family at his side. He was born August 7, 1922 in Masury, OH, son of the late Leon and Lillian (Carlson) Hoelzle.

After graduating from High School, Jack enlisted in the US Army and served his country in the European Theatre until his honorable discharge 4 years later. His name is listed on the WWII Memorial on the Ohio Pillar in Washington, D.C. Jack relocated to Chicago, IL to work at Armour Meat and then joined the Illinois National Guard where he served on the Honor Guard.

Jack married Joan Wunder, October 7, 1950 in Chicago and together they shared 66 loving years of marriage and raised their 2 daughters. The family moved to Green Bay in 1953 and Jack began to work for Fort Howard where he was employed for 31 years. He was a man of great faith and was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.

John was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially for Muskie (he was a member of the Packerland Muskie Club.) He was a member and former president of the Green Bay Kennel Club. Proud of his Swedish heritage, he was a charter member of the Lindgren Lodge and served as a Sgt. at Arms. His family fondly remembers him as a loving husband and proud father, father-in-law and grandpa.

John is survived by his wife, Joan; his 2 daughters, Kim (Brian) Everson and Paula Hoelzle; 2 grandchildren, Briana (Adam) Petersen and Erik Everson; great-granddaughter, Luna and a sister, Barbara Semko-Brittingham. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by 2 brothers-in-law, Michael Semko and Richard Brittingham; mother-in-law, Marie Wunder-Verville and 3 sisters-in-law: Ruthe (Warner) Bezotte, Mae (Rudy) Forsman and Charlotte (Russell) Blanshan.

Visitation will be held at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME (340 S. Monroe Ave., Green Bay) Monday, August 21, 2017 from 4 to 7 pm. A funeral service will be held at GRACE LUTHERAN CHURCH (321 S. Madison St., Green Bay), Tuesday, August 22, 2017 at 11 AM followed by full military honors. Interment will be in Nicolet Memorial Gardens.

Jack's family would like to thank Fritz and Bob for their loyal friendship. They would also like to thank Dr. Tracy Sherman and the staff at Bornemann Nursing Home for their care of Jack and to Pastor Larry Lange for his visits and prayers.
