John "Jack" Hewitt, 91, of Green Bay, passed away on October 30, 2023 at Bellin Health Hospital.
He was born on January 20, 1932 to William and Edith (McArthur) Hewitt in Sault Ste Marie, Michigan. On September 10, 1955, he married Janet Marie Hewitt (McClure).
Jack was a simple, easy going, and hard working man. He served as a gunner on a navy ship during the Korean War and spent over 30 years working at the paper mill in Green Bay until he retired. He was the most go with the flow and keep everyone happy kind of guy. His grandchildren reflected, "we don't think there was ever a time grandpa didn't have a smile on his face. He was one of the kindest and, lord knows, most patient people you will ever meet." Jack loved country music, old westerns, and Bruins hockey. Jack and Jan would winter in Florida and Arizona and enjoy traveling.
He set the example of what it means to enjoy the little things in life. Jack didn't seem to need much in life to be happy, just his friends and family. Any time someone walked in a room he'd get a great big smile and with eyes wide open he'd greet you like he just won the lottery.
Jack is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Janet, children: Bill Hewitt, Mary (Mike) Kuczynski, Scott (Stacey) Hewitt, Mike (Patti) Hewitt, and Jay (Cheri) Hewitt, eleven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren. He is further survived by other relatives and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, several brothers and sisters, and one son, Gary Hewitt.
Visitation will be held Thursday, November 9, 2023, from 3:30 pm until 6:00pm with a service to follow at 6:00pm at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions 340 S. Monroe Ave Green Bay.
The family would like to extend a thank you to the staff at Bellin, Unity Hospice, and his VA provider Brenda for all the care, comfort, and support that was given to Jack and the family.
We'll always remember that big happy smile.
