John Francis Gering, age 75, a lifelong resident of Green Bay, passed away peacefully at his home, Tuesday, October 22, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Green Bay, December 8, 1948, son of the late Melvin and June (Froelich) Gering and was a graduate of Bay Port High School, Class of 1968.
After graduation, John enlisted in the US Army and proudly served his country until his honorable discharge in 1971. While serving in the military, John married his high school sweetheart, Mary Ullmer, July 17, 1970. They shared 54 loving years together as husband and wife, were blessed with 3 children. John continued his education at NWTC where he learned the trade of carpentry and worked as a cabinet maker, for various Green Bay area businesses, finally retiring from DeLeers Millwork in 2008.
In retirement John’s main passion was refinishing furniture and was extremely talented at his craft. He also enjoyed spending time with his wife Mary and watching the ball games of their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
John is survived by his wife, Mary; 3 children: John (Melissa) Gering, Michelle Gering and Jessica (Stephen Gay) Gering; 5 grandchildren: Michaela, Tyler, Mia, Morgan and Mandy; 2 great-grandchildren: Maxtyn and Teku (and one on the way) and 4 siblings: Sandy (Mike) Osborne, Pete (Jean) Gering, Gary Gering, and Susan (John) Woodke. He is further survived by 2 sisters-in-law, Judy and Marge Gering, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Sharon Kleczka, 2 brothers, Melvin C. Gering and Robert L. Gering.
Per John's wishes, no services will be held.
John's family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at St. Vincent Hospital, especially the Oncology unit, and Unity Hospice for their incredible care and compassion.
