John "Jack" Cambray, age 84 of Green Bay, WI, passed away on Monday, May 24, 2021. He was born on October 4, 1936, in Sagola, MI, the ninth child of the late Chester and Gunhild (Broadland) Cambray.
Jack joined the Army in 1955 and was honorably discharged in 1959. Two years later, he joined the Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1965. His service, courage and bravery will never be forgotten. In Spring 2021, Jack was presented an award by the American Legion for his faithful membership and support for 50 years.
Jack is survived by his loving and devoted wife of over 57 years, Gerry; his grateful children: Mary (Jeff) Belongia and Matt (Heather) Cambray; his adoring grandchildren: Jenna Belongia (Chris Saldana), Emily Belongia (Skyler Gibeault), Grace Cambray and Mitchell Cambray; and his great-grandson, Maxwell Jack Saldana, who was his special joy and delight these past two years. Jack is further survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his cherished first-born daughter, Maria Cambray; two brothers and six sisters.
Jack will be remembered for his big smile, heartwarming chuckle, kind word, generous heart and for opening his home to family and friends—close and distant—who needed a place stay. Jack had endless patience for those closest to him and loved spending time with his grandchildren. Jack was personable and made a great old fashioned. Jack enjoyed grilling, gardening and country music. Jack will be missed tremendously by all who knew him.
The family wishes to express heartfelt thanks to Unity Hospice, especially Maria, for their care and support.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 26, 2021 at St. Agnes Catholic Church (484 9th St., Green Bay, WI 54304) from 9 AM to 11 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 AM and full military honors thereafter. Inurnment at Fort Howard Memorial Park will be held privately.
