Jewel (Wuerger) Callender, 86, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 29th, 2014, in Sun Prairie, WI. Born October 5, 1927, in Green Bay to Raymond and Hazel Wuerger, Jewel graduated in 1945 from East De Pere High School.
She married Robert Callender on September 15, 1951, at Saint John's Lutheran Church in De Pere. She became a full-time homemaker and a loving mother to their three children. She managed the home accounts and small business accounts they had as well as the apartments she and Bob owned and operated in Green Bay.
Jewel was a long time member of Grace Lutheran Church. Jewel was a member of Pricilla Circle and served as a Sunday School teacher when her children were young. They were regular patrons of the Green Bay Community Theater and enjoyed musicals at St. Norbert College and Mount Dora, Florida.
Jewel and Robert were hosts for many Army Reunions for Robert's 553rd Engineering unit and traveled to those reunions. They enjoyed spending winters in Leesburg, Florida. She loved to receive guests, both in Green Bay and at their Florida home, and to travel with her children and grandchildren. In 2006, all three children were able to take an Alaska cruise with Bob and Jewel, spending a week together and enjoying the scenery and each other's company.
Jewel is survived by her husband of 62 years Robert; daughters, Bonnie (William) Bell, Sun Prairie, Barbara (Paul) Pawlowski, Rothschild; son, Ronald (Ramona) Callender, Onalaska; six grandchildren, Nicole (Adam) BellCorelli, Christopher (Kirby) Bell, Megan (Angel) McKnight, Lyz (David) Kubouskek, Ryan (Jerica) Callender, and Anne Pawlowski; six great grandchildren, Haley, Brynn, Eliana, Owen, Lexie and Reid; sister, Eunice Lemke, De Pere, brothers, Raymond (Pat) Wuerger, Appleton and William (Mardelle) Wuerger, Madison; and nieces and nephews.
Jewel was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond (Hazel) Wuerger; her in-laws, Lester (Elsie) Callender, brother-laws Alvin Lemke and Eugene (Beatrice) Callender.
Visitation will be held from 2:00pm until 4:00pm on Sunday, February 2, 2014, at Newcomer Funeral Home, 340 S. Monroe Ave., Green Bay. Visitation will continue from 10:00am on Monday, February 3, 2014, at Grace Lutheran Church, 321 S. Madison St., Green Bay, until the time of the funeral service at 11:00am on Monday at the church with Pastor Larry Lange officiating. Entombment will be at Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established.
