Jesus V. Hernandez, Sr., age 67, of Green Bay, passed away Sunday, December 24, 2017 at Aurora BayCare Hospital, after a lengthy illness, surrounded by his loving family and friends. He was born February 5, 1950 in Eagle Pass, TX, son of the late Domingo and Maria Tomasa (Valdez) Hernandez.
Jesus was raised in Eagle Pass Texas with his 9 siblings. Jesus relocated to Green Bay in the 1970's for his work. He started Hernandez & Sons Towing Shop in 1998, which he ran with his son, Jesus Jr. He later opened Hernandez & Sons Tire Shop in 2000, which he owned and operated until the time of his illness in 2015.
Jesus married Penelope Thompson, March 14, 1979 in Green Bay. Together they shared 38 loving years of marriage and raised 3 children. Jesus was a loving husband and proud dad and "papa." His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially at cookouts and bonfires.
Jesus had a wonderful sense of humor and was always laughing and joking. He enjoyed trips to the casino, classic cars (mostly Chevy's), Sunday cruises and listening to Tejano music (especially the Garcia Brothers). He was very artistic and creative and loved to paint stained glass and do bead work. He was well loved by most who knew him.
Jesus is survived by his wife, Penelope; 3 children: Jessica (Isachar) Hernandez and their children, Domingo and Dezilu, Jesus Jr. (Brissa Holmstrom) Hernandez and their children, Jesus III (J.J.), Javier and Alysandra, and Juan Hernandez; 5 siblings: José Jorge (Alicia) Hernandez, Gilberto (Rosa Maria) Hernandez, Domingo (San Juanita) Hernandez, Jr., Graciela (Andy) Grossman and Maria Tomasa (Gustavo) Contreras, special compadre, Antonio Hernandez and long-time friend, Pedro "Pitonga" Garcia. He is further survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, step-mom, Maria Guadalupe Hernandez and a brother, Juan F. Hernandez.
Visitation will be held at Newcomer Funerals, Cremations & Reception (340 S. Monroe Ave., Green Bay), Friday, December 29, 2017 from 11 AM to 1 PM. A funeral service will follow at 1 PM.
