Janet Waage

June 15, 1931 — July 23, 2019

Janet Kathleen Hannesson Waage went to be with her husband in Heaven on July 23, 2019. She was born on June 15, 1931 to Hannes and Luella (Johnson) Hannesson on Washington Island, Wisconsin. Janet was the oldest of three daughters. She graduated from Washington Island High School- her father, Hannes, signed her diploma as he was school board president at the time. Janet married Clarence "Bud" Waage on March 26, 1949. Bud and Janet had four sons, Rod, Larry, Mike and Mark. Because Bud was a career Coast Guardsman, they lived in many cities around the US. One of her favorite places they lived was Cape May, New Jersey because of the beach.

After being a stay-at-home mom for many years, Janet began working outside the home as a Kelly Girl in Jacksonville, Florida and eventually became an Accounts Payable Supervisor at Applied Magnetic's in Santa Barbara, California before she retired. She considered her ability to keep her husband, Bud, in line and raising her boys and seeing them grow into the wonderful men they have become as her greatest accomplishments.

One of the highlights of her life was the trip to Iceland that she, Bud and her parents took in 1986. It was very special to travel where her father's family was from and have the opportunity to meet many of her relatives during their time there.
Janet and Bud returned to Washington Island in 1982 and then moved to Green Bay in 1997. Janet was active in her Church, Ascension Lutheran, Green Bay. She was part of the Quilters' Group, preparing the newsletter for mailing, Altar Guild, Grief Group, Christ Care and more. Her faith was an important part of her life.

Janet leaves behind her four sons: Rod (Sheryl), Larry, Mike, and Mark (Margaret); sisters Lois Gunnlaugson and Jerry (Dave) Johnson; 12 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Bud, and grandson, Jordan Waage.

Janet's visitation will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home (340 S. Monroe Ave., Green Bay, WI 54301) on Wednesday, July 31st, from 10am-12pm. A Memorial Service will be held at 12pm NOON with Pastor John Kepler officiating.
