Jane A. Maier, age 84, of Green Bay, passed away Monday, May 25, 2015 after a long and courageous battle with diabetic complications. She was born May 20, 1931 in East St. Louis, IL, daughter of the late Edward and Fay (Harris) Hiob.
Jane graduated from the University of Illinois in 1953 with a B.S. in Education. It was while attending the University of Illinois that she met Robert Maier, the love of her life. After they were married in 1952, Jane and Robert lived in Tuscon, AZ, Greenville, NC and Green Bay, WI.
Jane was passionate about storytelling. She began her career at the Brown County Memorial Library where she worked in the children's section. While living in North Carolina Jane travelled to many elementary schools in the eastern part of the state. She was known to use hats, props and puppets to captivate her audience. Needless to say, Jane loved to read. She even wrote a "book report" for all of the books she read during her adulthood.
Jane also worked at East Carolina University in Greenville, NC where she was involved with the CoOp program assisting university students in obtaining jobs within their fields of study. Jane loved to play Bridge, sing and entertain.
Jane stated that her greatest accomplishment and joy in life was having her three children whom she is survived by: Pamela (Gail Rusch) Maier of Green Bay, David (Susan) Maier of California, MD and Dan Maier of Santa Rosa Beach, FL. Survivors also include six grandchildren: Aaron, Nicholas, Zachary, Andrew, Cassie (Kyle) and Connor; great-grandson, Carson; sister, Phyllis Nester; nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death in 2005 by her husband of 53 years, Robert Maier.
A celebration of Jane's life will be held at a later date.
