Jane M. Burke

April 6, 1937 — August 26, 2024

Jane Muench Burke, 87, of Green Bay, WI, died in the home where she grew up, on August 26, 2024.

She was born on April 6, 1937, in Two Rivers, WI, second daughter of Virgil Jacob Muench and Ruth Suddard Muench.

She attended St. Olaf College and graduated from St. Norbert College, where she was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma.

Jane married Dennis T. Burke on October 12, 1957 in Ketchikan, Ak, where Dennis was stationed in the Coast Guard.

They moved back to Green Bay where she was a beloved elementary school teacher for over 35 years.

In addition to her lifelong passion for teaching, she loved plants, flowers, gardening, bird-watching, her myriad of pets, neighbor's pets, and all animals. One of her hobbies was collecting Monarch butterfly cocoons to watch and share their development until they emerged as butterflies.

She was the biggest Packers fan ever, proudly telling folks that she attended the famous, freezing, 1967 "Ice Bowl" Game. She hosted many, many Packer Parties and never missed watching the game.

Jane is survived by her husband, Dennis, her 3 red-haired daughters, Kathleen Burke, Kristine Belongeay, and Laura Ovberg, her 3 grandchildren, Nathan Belongeay, Nicolas Belongeay, and Maggie Ovberg. Also her sister, Ann, and many dear relatives.

She is preceded in death by the parents and brother she loved so dearly.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Green Bay Botanical Garden.

A Celebration of Jane's Life will occur at a date to be determined.
