Jan Harrison Carlson, 83, of Algoma, died Dec 22nd due to complications of cancer. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Ann Hawver Carlson, and his children, J Andrew (Jeanenne) Carlson, Timothy (Gina) Carlson, Camille (John) Gehrlich, Christopher (Liz) Carlson, and Angela (Corbett) Saunders, as well as his grandchildren Callie (John) Thomson, Jacob (Sarah), Jonah (Elsa), Zebediah, and Riley Carlson. Jan was born in Shorewood, a suburb of Milwaukee, to Jan Carlson, DDS., and Helen McCreary Carlson. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Sandra Carlson Gobitas and Robert Carlson. In 1970 he and his wife moved the family to Algoma. He founded Wisconsin's first seamless gutter company, Watertite Seamless Gutters. He raised his five children near Krohn's Lake, where they built their family home. He enjoyed working on his property, clearing the woods, and sitting in front of a good campfire. Jan was one of Jehovah's Witnesses and loved studying the Bible daily and teaching others about God's Kingdom's hope. One of his great joys was working on and overseeing scores of quick-build Kingdom Hall projects all over the region and on construction projects in other countries.
Jan was a hard worker, an outstanding organizer, a loyal family man, and very devoted to God. He's remembered as a loving shepherd to those under his care. He loved people, had a quick wit, was generous and hospitable, enjoyed traveling and experiencing other cultures. In short, he loved life and we will miss him greatly.
