James G. Tubbs

August 13, 1935 — December 30, 2021

James G. "Jim" Tubbs, age 86, of Ashwaubenon, passed away Thursday, December 30, 2021 at the Jack and Engrid Meng Residence. Jim was born August 13, 1935, the youngest child of Frank and Mary Tubbs, and grew up on Woodland Dairy Farm 2 miles north of Seymour, Wisconsin.

After graduating from Seymour High School in 1953 where he had the honor of being on the varsity football team all four years, he pursued a career in the feed and farmer-owned cooperative business by working at the local cooperative and then at a feed and animal research facility in Illinois. In 1954 he entered the U.S. Army and spent 2 years as a construction equipment operator in Mannheim, Germany, helping to reconstruct a war-torn Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1956 and attended UW-GB for one year and then transferred to Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado, pursuing a degree in Animal Science and playing football. After leaving college, Jim went back to the feed business and started at Center Valley Co-op, as the Feed Retail Sales Rep for Midland Cooperatives. When Midland merged with Land O' Lakes, Inc. in 1982 he became Regional Sales Manager and then Regional Member Service Manager. In 1994 he received the Wisconsin Cooperative Builder Award. He concluded 38 enjoyable years in the Cooperative world by retiring in 1997.

Jim met his wife, Dixie, at Colorado State where she was also a student. Dixie was from Sheridan, Wyoming, but he convinced her to move to Seymour, Wisconsin and marry him. They were married October 24,1958 in Seymour. They had been married 63 years at the time of his death.
Jim and Dixie have two children, Paula and Stephen, both graduates of UW-Madison. Paula and William Fink are parents to Forrest and Catherine. Stephen and Beth are parents to Madison and Breanna. His family was a source of pride and pleasure to him.

Jim was an active supporter of Ashwaubenon Youth Hockey. After retiring, Jim became a Master Gardener. He kept busy gardening at home and volunteering which were his great pleasures. He volunteered at the Green Bay Botanical Garden where he served on the Board of Directors for 9 years. He was on the Garden's Tuesday men's crew and really enjoyed working there with the men (special friend Randy, deceased) while using his trusty chain saw to help "clear cut" the garden. He volunteered at Bellin Hospital in various positions, and was a member (past president) of the Concerned Hearts Club. He was the chairman of the Village of Ashwaubenon Tree Board. He was raised to a 32nd degree Mason and at one time belonged to Beja Shrine. He volunteered at Pilgrim Congregational Church with the woods crew and also served as Moderator of the congregation. He was born a Methodist and returned to his "roots" at First United Methodist Church, Green Bay, where he once served as a Trustee.

He was a lifelong Packers fan and he, with Dixie, had tickets since 1958 and they attended the Ice Bowl.

Jim and Dixie traveled a lot including trips to China and England. They visited all 50 states and have many memories of their travels and the friends they met along the way.

He always enjoyed his yearly high school class reunions and felt the support and strength of his classmates and their bonds of friendship.

Survivors include his wife, Dixie, his children and grandchildren listed above, nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, siblings and in-laws: Mary Ellen; Bill (Zona, Gloria); Bob (Pat); Dale; Kate (Frank Pacheco).
