James "Jim" E. Berndt, age 73, of Green Bay, passed away July 10, 2016, surrounded by his loving family. He was born July 14, 1942 in Sturgeon Bay, son of the late Clarence and Leona (Rutz) Berndt and graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School.
James married Joyce (Raasch) LuMaye July 14, 1977 in Manitowoc, WI and together they shared 38 loving years of marriage. Jim was a carpenter and loved to keep busy doing work with his hands. After retirement, he envisioned restoring a vintage John Deere tractor. His vision was realized in just a few months and he went on to restore 3 more Cub Cadet tractors which he used to tote around the grandkids. Jim was a true family man and the time he spent with his family was most dear to him.
James is survived by his wife, Joyce; 3 daughters: Lisa (Jerry) Johnson, Lynne (Steve) Stillings and Lorie LaPorta; 4 sons: Mark LuMaye, Dan (Cyndi) LuMaye, Mike Berndt and John (Kristi) Berndt; 15 grandchildren; brother-in-law, Wally Bohler; very special canine companion, Dr. Webber; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Jane Bohler.
Visitation will be held at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME (340 S. Monroe Ave., Green Bay, WI), Saturday, July 16 from 10 to 11:45 AM. A memorial service will follow at 12 NOON.
Jim's family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Gautam and the staff at Unity Hospice for their loving care and compassion.
