Hope Constance Mercier, age 91, of De Pere, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. She was born September 5, 1929 in Plymouth, WI, daughter of the late Samuel and Gertrude (Fuchs) Eckstein and was a graduate of Green Bay East High School, Class of 1947.
Hope worked at Reliance Printing Company for 25 years and was one of the first women to use a Linotype machine creating lead blocks used in the printing process. She then worked at UW-Green Bay as an administrative assistant for the Department of Psychology and Human Development. She stayed at UW-Green Bay for 20 years until her retirement. While working at UW-Green Bay, Hope also worked part-time as a tour guide for Moore Fun Tours. As a tour guide she cared for each tour's customers while she was also able to enjoy the many locales and performances. After retirement from full-time work, she became a banquet waitress at The Rock Garden in Green Bay, volunteered as an usher for the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts, and also volunteered for Unity Hospice delivering prescriptions to home bound patients.
Hope had a great sense of humor, a positive outlook, and was a giving person. People wanting to encourage her would end up being encouraged by her. She had a zest for life and enjoyed many pursuits such as attending plays and musicals, taking piano lessons, reading, making jigsaw puzzles, and enjoying many meals out; especially at Kroll's West, The Pancake Place, and, on special occasions, The Club Chalet.
Hope is a Christ-follower and was particularly interested in the Rapture and End Times prophecies of the Bible. She loved to share stories and leave messages for people that would be "left behind" when the Rapture occurs. She attended both Celebration Church and Life Church.
She is survived by: Tom (Michelle) Mercier, Terri (Daniel) Mercier, Susan Mercier, Diane (Ron) Gouin, Cathie Mercier, 10 grandchildren (Trishina, Andrea, Joanna, Jessica, Nea, Nicole, Joshua, Stephanie, Lauren, Shawn), 21 great-grandchildren, and sisters June (Tony) Treml, and Janice Thelen. She was preceded in death by her son Daniel Mercier, and her sisters, Joyce Blodget and Faith Arntzen.
Hope's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Mihailescu as well as the staff of Heartland Hospice for their excellent care and compassion.
Due to Covid-19 concerns, the funeral is being limited to immediate family only.
