Hildegard L. Vander Zanden

Hildegard L. "Hilde" Vander Zanden, age 95, of Green Bay, passed away peacefully, Friday, January 29, 2021, surrounded by her loving family. She was born, February 6, 1925 in Chilton, WI, daughter of the late Ervin and Rose (Mueller) Klemm and attended Green Bay East High School.
Hilde married Francis "Bud" Vander Zanden, October 16, 1947 at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, Green Bay. Hilde and Bud shared 34 loving years of marriage before Bud passed away in 1982. She worked for many years delivering meals for the ADRC. She also worked at Green Bay Manor Care West as well as the downtown Green Bay YMCA. Hilde and Bud were members of the VFW Post #2037 for many years. When she was 87 years old, Hilde rode the Zippin Pippin at Bay Beach, which is something she really wanted to do!
Hilde was a avid cook and baker. She loved to share her food and baked goods with everyone that came to visit. They never went home with an empty stomach or without some leftovers to enjoy later. She always put others before herself and had great pride in caring for her family and friends.
Hilde is survived by 6 children: Barbara (James) Heezen, Cathy (Ken) La Tour, Robert (Lynn), David (Cathy), Jo Ann (Mike) Jeffrey, and Sue Vander Zanden; 7 grandsons; 9 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson (and 1 on the way!) She is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death her daughter and son-in-law, Denise Vander Zanden and Micky Zasoba; 2 sisters, Ruby (Donald) Hunt and Betty (Leonard) Bayer; her brother, Walter (Dorothy) Klemm; her father and mother-in-law, John Vander Zanden and Nellie Poehler and brothers and sisters-in-law: Joseph (Eileen), John (Marion) and Rose (William) Hinkel.
Visitation will be held in the chapel at Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum (2770 Bay Settlement Rd., Green Bay), Saturday, February 6, 2021 from 10 to 11 AM. A memorial service will follow at 11 AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials directed to the Green Bay Humane Society in Hilde's name are appreciated.
Hilde's family would like to extend their gratitude to Linne Baenen, the staff at Allouez Sunrise Village, Unity Hospice, the 9th floor staff at St. Vincent Hospital, St. Vincent Visiting Nurses and St. Vincent Wound Care Clinic for their loving care and compassion.
