Helen A. De Villers

September 10, 1926 — September 8, 2020

On September 8, 2020 the Lord said "Welcome home Helen Ann." She was born September 11, 1926 to Matt and Leona Matzke in Green Bay. Like a gift from God, Helen made our lives richer just by being there. She was blessed with a delightful sense of humor and the patience of a saint. She took along our love and left us with precious memories. A bit of a poet, she loved to write about family and friends, always with a touch of humor, lots of love or some surprise. She had a love for music, like her son, John, from the "big bands" era and growing up loved to harmonize with her sisters to the "good old songs". Helen worked at H.C. Prange and St. Vincent's Hospital in the cafeteria and pharmacy until her gift of creativity drew her into the field of floral design. She worked at Schroeder's Flowers, Summerplace Gardens and introduced floral designing to the two Aim Variety stores in Green Bay.

On November 23, 1946 Helen married Milton "Mick" De Villers at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral and they have been together 74 years. She leaves him behind along with her two loving and talented children who were per pride and joy.

Son, John De Villers (Lisa) and daughter, Joanie DeKeyser. Also a sister, Joanne Witham and sister-in-law, Lyn (Curt Thelen) Matzke. Three grandsons: Dan (Kim) Piehl, Rick (Tracy) Piehl and Matt (Tammy) Piehl. One granddaughter, Maia (fiancée, Matt Holler). One great-granddaughter, Abbie Piehl. Many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Preceded in death by her parents, brothers and their spouses: Joe Matzke, Bernard (Lois) Matzke, sisters and their spouses: Rosemary (Mick) Schultz and Margie (Tom) Wolf, and brother-in-law, Chuck Witham.

Visitation will be held at Newcomer-Green Bay Chapel (340 S. Monroe Ave., Green Bay), Saturday, September 19, 2020 from 12 to 1 PM. A memorial service will follow at 1 PM.

To those I love, I say "Good Bye". See you again at that place in the sky. I'll light up the way with stars so bright, with an archway of rainbows to guide your flight. We'll reminisce and finally embrace, in that "over the rainbow" resting place.

A special thank you to the Brandon Rockstroh who made my wish come true when I said "I'd die to have you sing for me!"

Also my special grandson, Rick Piehl who went way beyond the call of duty to make my last years easier to bear!

Sister-in-Law, Lyn Matzke was my Florence Nightingale and held my hand to the bitter end through all aspects. One great lady!
