Harold A. Mongin, age 88, of Green Bay, passed away Wednesday, August 3, 2016 at Woodside Lutheran Home with his two nieces at his side. He was born November 22, 1927 in Green Bay, son of the late Joseph and Mary (Germiat) Mongin.
He attended St. John the Evangelist grade school and was a graduate of Central Catholic High School Class of 1946. Harold enlisted and served his country in the United States Army in World War II and the Korean Conflict with the 64th Infantry Regiment, 6th Division until his Honorable Discharge, February 27, 1948.
Harold was employed as an agent for the Mongin Insurance Agency, shop manager for Mayfair Tuxedo Rental and a messenger for Bank One (Chase Bank.) His hobbies were artistic, including oil painting, jeweled Christmas trees and other crafts.
Harold is survived by a brother and a sister, Robert Mongin and Ethel Ropson, both of Green Bay; 2 special nieces, Susan (Chris) Brickson and Mary Gilson; 4 nephews: Steve (Carol) Lom, Robert (Celeste) Lom, Donald (Peggy) Ropson and Michael (Laine) Ropson and many other nieces, nephews and special friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Donald; brother, Richard (Astrid) Mongin; sister, Mildred Lom; 2 brothers-in-law, Robert Lom and Cyrenne Ropson and 2 nephews, Jerry Lom and Tom Brickson.
Visitation will be held at ST. FRANCIS XAVIER CATHEDRAL (140 S. Monroe Ave., Green Bay), Monday, August 8, 2016 from 9 to 10:45 AM. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11AM with Fr. Joe Dorner officiating and Deacon Don Ropson assisting. Full military honors will follow. Interment will be in Allouez Catholic Cemetery.
