Gilbert N. Ortlieb, 89, of Stockbridge, WI., passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, October 10th, 2021. He was born on December 22nd, 1931, to the late Frank and Mildred (Stevens) Ortlieb.
Gilbert is a graduate of Stockbridge High School, class of 1949. This is where he started dating the love of his life Rosemary.
On October 25th, 1951, Gilbert and Rosemary got married at St. Mary's of the Seven Dolors where they were members. This year the pair would have celebrated 70 wonderful years together.
Gilbert and Rosemary went on to raise their six children at the family farm. This is where Gilbert worked for most of his life but he also sold property and liability insurance on the side. He was a long time president of Calumet Equity Mutual Insurance Company.
Gilbert was an avid hunter and fisherman. He especially enjoyed sturgeon fishing and his trips to Minnesota with his children. Gilbert spent a lot of his time in the shop making sturgeon fishing equipment. He was a member of the Stockbridge Harbor Fishing Club.
Gilbert loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Gilbert is survived by the love of his life Rosemary; their children: Marilyn Schwab, Judy Ortlieb, Jerry (fiancé Tami Verhagen) Ortlieb and Dave (Pat) Ortlieb; grandchildren: Crystal (Randy) Rueth, Kaitlyn (Matt) Winkler, Holly (Eric) Bolz, Nathan (Andrea) Ortlieb and Nick (Marcy) Ortlieb; great-grandchildren: Rogan, Ryson, Teagan, Ben, Khloe, Emerson, Ariana, Evelyn, Emmett, Audrina, and Zoe; sister-in-law Cecelia Hoelzel along with many nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Gilbert is preceded in death by his children: Gilbert Jr. and Thomas; two brothers: Ernest and Donald Ortlieb; son-in-law Steven Schwab and brothers and sisters-in-law.
Visitation for Gilbert will be held on Saturday, October 30th, 2021, at St. Mary's of the Seven Dolors Church (120 Davis St., Stockbridge, WI. 53088) from 9:00AM - 11:00AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00AM with Fr. Michael Betley officiating.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff at Ascension Medical Group and Willowdale Health Services along with Calumet County Hospice for the care and compassion given to Gilbert.
