Gerald E. Fontaine Sr.

October 24, 1924 — January 25, 2014

Gerald E. Fontaine Sr., 89, Green Bay, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 25, 2014. He was born on October 26, 1924, in Green Bay, to the late Eugene and Gladys (Van Seggern) Fontaine. On August 25, 1951 Jerry married the love of his life, Carol VandenPlas.

Jerry took over running his family's dairy farm in 1958, making it one of the few "four generation" farms in the area. He ran the farm until 1975. He also worked for the Brown County Highway Department beginning in the 1950's, not retiring until 1986.

Jerry's roots run deep in the Town of Humboldt which was established by Henry Fontaine, his great-grandfather, on April 2, 1860. He grew up and raised his own family on the same homestead as his ancestors. He was well known in the community for owning the well recognized round barn built by his grandfather, August in 1905.

Jerry enjoyed roller skating, dancing, hunting, fishing, bowling, and especially spending time with his family and friends. After retiring he liked gardening and cutting the lawn on his riding lawnmower. Jerry enjoyed sitting on his front porch watching the world go by.

Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Carol; 4 children: Linda Summers and Jerry Jr., David (Holly), and Susan (Tom Arts) Fontaine; grandchildren, Devin (Amy) and Colin Summers, Tiana Dresang, Amber (Chris) Dresang-Charlier, and Chris and Jessica Fontaine; great-grandchildren, Talon, Serenity, Atreyu, and Zeke; sister, Doris (Bill) Lawson, Cherokee Village, Arkansas; and numerous relatives and friends.

Family and friends may gather on Thursday, January 30, 2014, at Newcomer Funeral Home, 340 S. Monroe Ave., Green Bay, from 3:00pm until 7:00pm. Entombment will be at Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Jerry's name with Heifer International to purchase farm animals for struggling families around the world.

Jerry's family would like to thank the staff and care takers of Home Instead, Aurora VNA Hospice, and Bornemann Nursing Home.

A special thanks to Don Bins, Sandy, Sam, Crystal, Bucky, Hope, and Hailey.
