Georgette Caroline Johnson, born March 13, 1930 and lovingly known as "Babe" by family and friends, passed away July 15, 2012 at Cherry Meadows (Appleton) after a prolonged illness. She was born in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, the daughter of George and Suzanna Walther and married Royce Austin Johnson on September 12, 1952.
Georgette was valedictorian at Sturgeon Bay High School, class of 1948. She attended UW-Whitewater and earned a B.S. Degree in Secondary Business Education 1959. She spent the majority of her career as a teacher starting at the Sheboygan Vocational School in 1961 which eventually became Lakeshore Technical College from which she retired in 1985. She was a key contributor to the development of the Medical Assistance Program and was devoted to the personal and professional success of her students. Post retirement, Georgette remained active in supporting a family business in real estate development in Appleton for many years and also donated her time and accounting talents to help others. Georgette loved to play cards and games with her family. This carried over to her fondness of the casino in her later years where she was a frequent winner. She was a devoted grandmother and used to call the grandchildren in from their play at the family cabin in Fence, Wisconsin by using the "Hi Ho!" tune from Snow White and the Seven Dwarves to which they would respond with another "Hi Ho!" and come marching in for lunch or dinner.
Georgette is survived by her husband Royce, and children Kimberly (Judith ) Johnson , Kevin (Susie) Johnson, Pamela (formerly Matz) Johnson, Kirk Johnson, seven grandchildren, Kyle (Chelsea) Johnson and Kelsey Johnson, Gordon Adam Matz, Jonathon Matz, Shanna Johnson, Austin Johnson, Stacey Johnson, and four great grandchildren, Talan, Anthony, Sage and Meadow.
Georgette will be remembered as a motivated and accomplished contributor in her work, and a devoted sister, wife, mother, and grandmother whose sweetness and many kindnesses will linger as the fragrance of heaven's perfect rose, always and forever. She was a devout Christian and is now joyfully in the blessed hands of the Lord Jesus Christ, resting in His peace and promises.
Funeral services will be on Thursday, July 19, 2012 at Faith Lutheran Church located at 601 E. Glendale Avenue, Appleton, Wisconsin. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. with services beginning at 5:00 p.m.
In lieu of a memorial fund, the family asks that donations be made to the charity of your choice in Georgette's name.
