George W. Hoeffel

July 6, 1932 — April 4, 2014

George W. Hoeffel, 81, passed away from a heart attack on Friday, April 4, 2014, while preparing for another good day at the McCormick Home.

He was born on July 6, 1932, in Chicago, IL, to the late Paul & Julia Hoeffel.

George served in the U.S. Army. He received his Master's Degree from Loyola University.

He started his career in Joliet, IL. He then moved his family to Green Bay where he worked for St. Vincent Hospital in human resources for over twenty years. Following his retirement George reentered the work force where he enjoyed his time working for the Stockbridge-Munsee Indian Tribe.

George married Peggy Hearden on August 22, 1959, in Green Bay, together they raised five children. Although they divorced, they remained friends through the years.

He will best be remembered by his children for the life lessons he taught them and for his unstoppable support of them. Though often times inappropriate, he had great sense of humor. He supported those in need. He had many friends young and old who were very important to him.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, googling and face booking. He loved a good cup of coffee. He was proud of hosting the "boys behaving badly" weekends at his cabin as well as his ability to spit fire and teaching people the art of spoon hanging.

George is survived by Peggy Hoeffel; their children, Paul, Patty, Susan (Tony) Greene, and Peter (Amy); and grandchildren, Jack and Oliver.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Katie.

George's family wishes to thank the staff at The Jack & Ingrid Meng Residence for giving him fantastic care which allowed him more time with his family and friends. He was proud to be a "graduate" of the hospice program, which led to his move to the McCormick Home.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. John the Evangelist Homeless Shelter or Unity Hospice.

Visitation will be held from 5:00pm until 8:00pm on Monday, April 7, 2014, at Newcomer Funeral Home, 340 S. Monroe Ave., Green Bay.
