Gail H. Zey

May 11, 1948 — December 31, 2021

Gail H. Zey, age 73, of Green Bay, passed away Thursday, December 30, 2021 at Woodside Lutheran Home. Gail Zey lived her life, especially after her stroke, as a person of deep faith and lived the rest of her life showing her faith. She was born in Madison, WI, on May 11, 1948, to Luther and Helen Hanson and was adopted at the age of 2 ½ by her wonderful parents, Frederick and Pauline (Novak) Kramer of Cobb, WI. She was fortunate that her new parents also chose another sibling at that time, and Gail was raised along with her younger sister, Patricia. Around age 6, Gail and her sister, Pat started piano lessons given by their new mother, Pauline. Both girls showed early musical talent and sang in churches from the ages of 3 and 4 years old. At age 10, Gail started studying flute and became accomplished at a very young age. Playing flute would be her most loved expression of music as well as singing with the St. Norbert choir in DePere. Later in life, she viewed her flute as a fishing pole to become a fisher of men for Christ. Many beautiful solos were played, flute and piano, by Gail and her sister, Pat, both in public venues and churches. She served as organist/pianist at various local churches in DePere and Green Bay, WI.

Gail married Jerry N. Zey in 1983, but was not blessed with any children. She did however help her husband raise seven of his children while teaching public school in Green Bay. She is survived by them including: Timothy, Annette, Steven, Lyle, John, Marianne and Janet; numerous grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Pat (Rev. John) Poppe and her nieces, Jillyn Poppe and Robyn (Jeremy) Janssen; a sister, Deborah (Wayne) Tomas and a brother, Phillip (Karen) Kramer in Missouri City, TX. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry, and her parents.

After her stroke in 2017, she worked diligently to regain vision, balance and memory. She lived at Woodside Manor in Green Bay, WI, at the end of her life. She would like to be remembered as a woman who lived her faith to the best of her ability, always giving God the glory and thanks for her recovery.

Visitation will be held at Pilgrim Lutheran Church (1731 St. Agnes Dr., Green Bay), Saturday, March 19, 2022 from 11 AM to 12 NOON. A memorial service will follow at 12 NOON officiated by Pastor Michael Hanson. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, De Pere, WI, at a later date.

Special thanks to the staff at Woodside Lutheran Home and Unity Hospice for their compassion and care.
