Fred "Fritz" Monroe, 83, of Green Bay, WI., passed away on October 14th, 2021.
Fred was born in Shawano, WI. on September 7th, 1938. He graduated from Bonduel High School in 1956 and entered the Army on November 12th, 1956. He was honorably discharged in November of 1959.
In 1959 he started a 34-year career with Fort Howard, now G.P., in the electrical maintenance field. He also worked 5 years for Monroe Construction and over 20 years with Backyard Boys Woodworking.
In 1961 Fred married Marsha Dobratz at the E.U.B. Methodist Church in Bonduel. They were blessed with a daughter and a son. Fred and Marsha were married until September 13th, 1992 when Marsha passed away after a two year battle with cancer.
In 1999 Fred met Judy Twomey and a friendship developed through the bicycle trails of Wisconsin and travels to many national parks. His friendship with Judy extended throughout Judy's family Lee, Nick, Susan, Steven, and their immediate families. After 20 years of friendship, Judy passed away after her own battle with cancer on September 19th, 2019.
Fred is survived by his daughter Rene (Jerry) Dorsett, and his son Todd Monroe (Linda Dessell); brother Charles; brother-in-law Clem Borowski; grandchildren: Mitchell Monroe, Jessica Behrendt, Kayla (Adam) Young, Branden (Allie) Nyman, Benjamin (Molly) Nyman, Megan (Hansel) Anderson, and William Dorsett, and Linda Dessell's children: Tyler & Adam "Larry" Dessell; great-grandchildren: Austin, Raina, Lexie, Cameron, Luke, Hattie, Braxton, and Marsha.
Fred was preceded in death by his folks, his wife Marsha; brothers: Richard and Steve; sisters: Pattie Herb, Jan Thompson, and Nancy Borowski; sister-in-law Donna Monroe and brothers-in-law: James Herb and Rick Thompson.
Fred wanted to give a special thank you to his family for all the time and care given to him, as well as a thank you to his St. Paul's Church family for their prayers and support. He would also like to thank Green Bay Oncology, Bellin Hospital Cardiac Unit and Unity Hospice.
Visitation for Fred will be held on Saturday, October 23rd, 2021 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church (341 Wilson Avenue, Green Bay, WI.), from 9:00AM - 11:00AM. A prayer service will follow at 11:00AM with Rev. Diane Rew officiating. Fred will be laid to rest at Fort Howard Memorial Park. To follow the churches guidelines, masks will be required for all attending. The service will also be live-streamed and made available in the days following through St. Paul's website at stpaulsumcgb.com.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial may be made in Fred's name to St. Paul's Youth Christian Education Fund (341 Wilson Avenue, Green Bay, WI.), or Children's Hospital in Milwaukee.
