Frederick "Fred" Eugene Brown, 98, of Green Bay, passed away on September 19, 2024.
He was born on February 1, 1926 to Lyman and Florence (Bryant) Brown in Swayzee, Indiana. He was raised in Swayzee and was a graduate of Swayzee High School in 1943. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy. He did Boot Training at Great Lakes and was stationed in Solomans Island, Maryland. When he was discharged, he enrolled and graduated from Wabash College in Wabash, Indiana with a Bachelor's of Liberal Arts degree.
He married Betty Hughes on April 24, 1953 at the Central Methodist Church in Richmond, Indiana. The couple moved to Green Bay, WI in 1962, where he was employed as a sales representative with various businesses connected with the paper industry.
Fred is survived by his three daughters: Claire (Robert) Spear of New London, Sarah Parish of Eau Claire, and Becky (Jerry) Glaeser of Green Bay; six grandchildren: Jennifer (Jordan) Tews, Michael (Keyla) Spear, Mark Parish, Bryan Parish, Kelsey Glaeser and Andrew Glaeser; four great-grandchildren: Calvin Spear, Sylvia Spear, Carter Tews and Avren Tews; along with many nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, Fred is preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty; and one brother, Richard Brown.
Dad was always the stabilizing force in our family. He saw to it that our family was taken care of with financial security and strength of character.
He often quoted at suppertime, "Let us now be up and doing with a heart for any fate, still achieving, still perusing, learn to labor and to wait."
He always complimented Mother on the meals she prepared. He always let his daughters know he was glad they were girls and felt that they were equal in intelligence and ability to anyone. He was the one who saw to it that his daughters went to church, which included donuts or a breakfast at Big Boys after services. He changed his mind on religion but not on the belief in the strength of character, responsibility and equality of all people. That is the heart of a true soul. Dad always had strong opinions and was willing at length to share his thoughts. Dad pressed on in his later years caring for his wife as her health failed. He saw to it that the financial loose ends of life were tidied up. He enjoyed reading, painting and plucking a few songs on the piano.
Mother and Dad were avid walkers at Green Isle Park. They can now walk together again.
Services for Fred will be privately held by the family. Newcomer- Green Bay Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
