Franklin J. Nicholas

December 18, 1963 — July 5, 2023

Franklin J. "Frank" Nicholas, age 59, of Green Bay, passed away unexpectedly at his home, Wednesday, July 5, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 18, 1963 in Green Bay, son of the late Eldred J. Nicholas and Carol L. (Cornelius) Smith and was a graduate of Freedom High School.

Frank was a talented, state ranked boxer in the late 1970's and was a member of the Oneida Soaring Eagle Boxing Club. He was a proud iron worker and was honored to have been a part of the construction work at Lambeau and the Brown County Jail. Frank was an active member of the Local #8 Iron Workers Union.

Frank was proud of his Oneida heritage. He had a soft spot in his heart for animals and loved to invite his grandkids over to check out a deer, turkey or any wildlife that wandered into his yard. You could often find Frank cruising around the Rez on his Indian Motorcycle. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing, passing his love of these hobbies to his family, especially his grandchildren.

Franklin is survived by the love of his life, Cheryl Smith; 5 children: Rosa (Lee) Laster, Linda Nicholas, Felicia Nicholas, Miranda Nicholas and Nicholas (Giselle Oliva) Metoxen; 9 grandchildren: Easton, Mason, Destiny, Frankie, Chase, Devon, Joshua, Jackie and Myles; a great-granddaughter, Aylah; his mother, Carol (Nathan) Smith; 3 sisters: Bonnie (Ernie) Nicholas-Marlewski, Geraldine (Joseph) Danforth and Denise (Michael) McVeigh. He is further survived by step-siblings, numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Eldred Nicholas and a sister, Linda Nicholas.

Visitation will be held at Newcomer-Green Bay Chapel (340 S. Monroe Ave., Green Bay, WI), Monday, July 10, 2023 from 2 to 5 PM. A funeral service will follow at 5 PM.
