Eugene J. "Gene" Van Hout, age 94, of Green Bay, passed away at his home, Friday, July 14, 2023. He was born October 22, 1928 in Big Stone City, SD, son of the late John H. and Mary L. (Paul) Van Hout and was a graduate of Catholic Central High School, Class of 1947.
Gene was drafted in the US Army in 1950. He proudly served his country, stationed in Germany, until his honorable discharge in 1952. He worked as a postal carrier with US Postal Service for his entire career, retiring after 30 years of service. Eugene also worked for 20 years at Bay Title on a part time basis. He was a man of strong faith and a devout member of St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, Green Bay.
Eugene was an avid golfer and bowler. He also enjoyed playing cards with his friends. For many years he coached basketball at Premontre High School and worked as an official. In his later years, he was involved with fantasy baseball league. His positive nature and upbeat attitude was admirable. He will be dearly missed.
Eugene is survived by his niece and nephews: Brian (Mary "Marty") Van Hout, Bruce Van Hout, Jan Bozella, Craig (Sandy) Van Hout and Kurt (Marsha) Van Hout. He is further survived by special friend, Jack (Julie) May and other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Herbert (Jean) and Joseph (Shirley) Van Hout and a nephew, Paul Van Hout.
Visitation will be held at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral (140 S. Monroe Ave., Green Bay), Tuesday, July 25, 2023 from 9 to 11 AM. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 AM with Fr. Brian Belongia, celebrant. Entombment will be in Shrine of the Good Shepherd Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, memorials directed to St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Gene's name are appreciated.
