Eugene W. "Jens" Kohl, age 92, of Green Bay, formerly of Fort Atkinson, passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at St. Mary's Hospital, Green Bay. He was born February 10, 1925 in Hebron, WI, son of the late Jens and Marguerite (Whitney) Kohl and was a graduate of Cambridge High School.
Jens enlisted in the US Army in 1943 and served his country until his honorable discharge in 1946 and achieved the rank of Sergeant. Eugene worked at Jones Dairy Farm as a sausage maker, where he met his future wife, Irene Zeh. Jens and Irene were married at the Little Brown Church in Iowa, May 18, 1957 and they shared many loving years of marriage before she passed away in 2000.
Jens was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also loved to bowl and cheer on his Packers and Brewers. He is remembered as a fun-loving man with a unique sense of humor. He was a proud grandpa and great-grandpa.
Eugene is survived by his step-son, James (Jean) Smithback of Green Bay; granddaughter, Beth (Paul) Spicer; 2 great-grandchildren, Alexandra and Andrew Spicer; a sister, Virginia Chadwick of Kaukauna, WI and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by 3 sisters: Lois Procknow, Darlene McLeod and Carol Dahnke.
A celebration of life will begin at 11 AM at Salamone's Restaurant (1245 Madison Ave, Fort Atkinson), Saturday, July 29, 2017. A meal in Eugene's honor will be served at 12 NOON.
