De Pere, Wisconsin – Eugene J. "Gene" Feldhausen, 93, passed away on November 27, 2022 after a long and full life. Gene was born in Long Island, New York on November 21, 1929 to Oliver and Lucille (Luksik) Feldhausen. He graduated from Lawrence High School in Cedarhurst, New York in 1947 and the University of Missouri in 1951. He served as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Navy from 1951-55 and then attended law school at the University of Missouri, clerking for a U.S. District Court judge in Kansas City after law school.
Gene married the former Frances Baugher on April 17, 1964 and they enjoyed 56 wonderful years together, raising a family in the Platte City, MO area. Gene and Frances moved to Green Bay, Wisconsin in 2011 to be with family.
During 50 years of law practice in the Kansas City area, Gene served in a variety of community and public service roles. He was appointed as a Commissioner on the Missouri Highway and Transportation Commission in December 1979 and served through November 1985, serving as Chairman during his final two years on the commission. He also served as a member of the Board of Regents of Missouri Western State College (now Missouri Western State University) from 1977-79. A lifelong supporter of the Navy, Gene was appointed as a member of the Commissioning Committee for the USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75). More than anything, Gene loved Scouting and supporting his two sons and three grandsons as they all progressed through the rank of Eagle Scout. A lifelong student of history and a voracious reader, he loved taking his family to historic sites, particularly Civil War battlefields, and challenging his children to appreciate the sacrifices of those who came before.
Gene leaves behind two sons: Tom (Tricia) Feldhausen of Mansfield, OH and Tim (Lara) Feldhausen of Green Bay, WI and three grandchildren: Erika Feldhausen of Austin, TX; Ryan Feldhausen of Fairfax, VA; and Josiah Feldhausen of Green Bay, WI, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Frances, a daughter-in-law, Lori Feldhausen, and two grandchildren, Michael Feldhausen and Katherine Feldhausen.
Burial will be at Leavenworth National Cemetery, Kansas with a gravesite service.
The family would especially like to thank the staff at Rennes Health & Rehab Center - De Pere, Gene's home during his final years, for their incredible care and compassion shown to Gene and his family during his illness. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donation to the Alzheimer's Association in Gene's memory.
