Erna B. (Bergelin) Lorberblatt, 101, Green Bay, passed away peacefully with her family by her side, Sunday, November 4, 2012.
She was born September 27, 1911, in Franklin to the late Fred & Ernestine (Kitzerow) Bergelin of Denmark.
Erna graduated from Denmark High School with the class of 1929. She also attended Manitowoc Teacher Training School, earned teaching credits at University Extension, and attended summer school at St. Norberts. Her teaching career started in a one room schoolhouse where she taught 8 grades. Erna completed her teaching career at St. Matthew's Catholic School.
On August 24, 1935 Erna married Edward Lorberblatt at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, Green Bay. They celebrated 49 years together before Ed passed away on February 8, 1985.
Erna was a member of St. Matthew Parish for over sixty years. She was also a member of the Oaks Society and the Retired Mission. Erna participated in the Prayer Tree for many years and did volunteer work at the Green Bay Catholic Diocese along with St. Vincent De Paul. More than anything Erna enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and traveling.
She is survived by her four daughters: Elaine (Gary) Gerondale, Sue (Skip) Krawczyk, and Dianne Pirlot all of Green Bay, and Mary (Don) Butnick of Casco; 14 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Lorraine Bergelin and Charlotte Soukup; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; an infant son, James Edward; three infant sisters, Linor and twins Ruth & Roselin; son-in-law, Glenn Pirlot; great-granddaughter, Celia Caldie; two sisters, Violet Schaetz and Gertrude Siebold; two brothers, Gearhart & Orville Bergelin; three sisters-in-law, Ann Bergelin, Mildred & Josephine Lorberblatt; and four brothers-in-law, Louis Schaetz, Edward Siebold, Joe & Don Lorberblatt.
Family and friends may call Friday, November 9, 2012, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 130 St. Matthews St., Green Bay, from 9:30am until 10:45am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the church on Friday at 11:00am with Rev. Phillip Dinh-Van-Thiep officiating. Entombment will be in Allouez Chapel Mausoleum.
