Ella Marie Hislip

December 11, 1919 — March 15, 2014

Ella Marie Hislip, 94, of Eau Claire, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 15, 2014. She was born on December 11, 1919, Foley, Minnesota, to the late Henry and Mary (Henry) Hansmeier. Ella attended Calhoun Business College in Minneapolis and then returned to Foley to work as Assistant Deputy of Court.

On April 16, 1946 Ella married her best friend, Marvin Hislip. Together they operated a small farm and in 1956 moved to Chippewa Falls, WI, when Marvin became district manager of DeKalb Seed. Marv and Ella enjoyed traveling the back roads and the contact they had with their dealers. In the early 70's they built a home in Eau Claire where they would later retire. Marv and Ella were fortunate to earn a number of company trips to foreign destinations.

Following Marvin's passing in 1992, Ella started journaling the life cycle of the eagle's nest in her back yard. Ella enjoyed the Wesleyan Church Care and Prayer group for many years. In December 2011, she moved to Green Bay to live at Woodside Assisted Living. Ella enjoyed the time she was able to spend with her great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her three children, Susan (Kurt) Miller, Sandra (Don) Chrystal, and Roger (Rhonda) Hislip; grandchildren, Kristine (Craig) Newman, John (Cassie) Chrystal, and Kyle Hislip; great-grandchildren, Gabrielle, Grant, Olivia, and Gage Newman; and two sisters, Althea Bergstrom, Ruth (Hubert) Berger as well as many nieces and nephews.

Ella was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Rachel (William) Monroe; brothers, Ervin (Elevina) and Joseph (Laura) Hansmeier; and brother-in-law, Herbert Bergstrom.

Ella's family would like to thank the Woodside Manor Assisted Living staff who cared for her and especially those who shared jokes with Ella the past two years. Heartfelt thanks to Pastor Steve Apfel for his friendship and pastoral care. They would also like to thank very special friends Betty, Renee and Lynda for their companionship.

Family and friends may call Thursday, April 3, 2014, at Eau Claire Wesleyan Methodist Church, 2405 Keith St., Eau Claire, from 10:00 a.m. until 11.00 a.m. A memorial service will be celebrated at the church on Thursday at 11:00 with Pastor Winterberg officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Ella's name to the Woodside Chapel Fund.
