Elizabeth A. Ernst of Green Bay died Thursday, June 6, 2013, at the age of 91 years. She was born September 28, 1921, daughter of Urban and Margaret (Rice) Vande Walle of DePere. She married Gustave Ernst on July 5, 1948. He preceded her in death on March 12, 2001. Mrs. Ernst raised seven children while also working and enjoying life. She was a long-time member of Grace Lutheran Church. She enjoyed playing bridge with friends, Scrabble with family, and was an avid reader. She loved her flowers, spending time at the cottage, and traveling.
Mrs. Ernst is survived by her children: Gus Jr. (Susan) Ernst, Plymouth, WI; Paul (Linda) Ernst, Green Bay; Marcia (John) Behrendt, Wausau; Laurel (David) Arendt, Antigo; Mark (Deborah) Ernst, Green Bay; John Ernst (special friend, Ann Sprenger) Green Bay; and Carl (Kim) Ernst, DeSmet, South Dakota; 10 grandchildren, Jonathan Ernst, Chris (Brittney) & Adam (Erin) Behrendt, Jacob Brodersen, Sarah (Tony) Arendt-Beyer, Alex & Emily Ernst, and Hans, Ian, and Will Ernst; 1 great- granddaughter, Ellenore Mae Behrendt; 2 sisters, Jean (William) Rentmeester and Judy Twomey; 2 sisters-in-law, Jean Vande Walle and Norma Vande Walle; and many cousins.
Mrs. Ernst was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Richard Vande Walle, Glenn Vande Walle, and Thomas Vande Walle; and sister, Carol Byron.
Family and friends may call Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at Grace Lutheran Church, 321 S. Madison St., Green Bay, from 9:30am until 11:00am. A funeral service will be celebrated at the church on Wednesday at 11:00am with Pastor Julie Wrubbel-Lange officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Allouez Parkside Assisted Living and Unity Hospice.
